Goin' Strong

Well this has been a month jam-packed with excitement and intrigue! The lack of posts is due mainly to how busy everyone's been, what with the working out and the eating good and whatnot. Some have even gotten rid of the internet all together, throwing their PCs out the window crying "IT ROTS YER SPIRIT!" (Dave's OK now, I think he was just having a hummus-induced freakout.) REGARDLESS, some exciting things have been happening, so let's recap.

In July the groups met for a session of nutritional councelling where we all learned some important lessons. Calories, fat, and carbs aren't the enemies as many diet plans would have you believe. And in fact you can hinder weight-loss by UNDER eating! Especially in women, when your body isn't getting its daily dose of calories it freaks out and goes into a storage mode, like a squirrel hoarding nuts for the winter. Your body starts to think it's starving, and decides to slow down your metabolism and burn less instead of maintaining a healthy rate. This was an eye-opener to some of the Summer Challengers, as some of us didn't know the ins and outs of eating right, and were left eating less because we weren't sure we could have much more than veggies and twigs. Not any more though; there's a whole world of delicious foods that you can chow down on and still maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The gym is treating all of us like kings, AmFam is amazing and their trainers are so helpful! I try to hit it when Wheel Of Fortune is on TV, because I can stay on the eliptical forever and ever as long as i am lost in the world of TV game shows. Or Sudoku, but that's harder, and I am pretty sure my mom told me not to run with pencils. Or low-impact glide with pencils. Whatever.

The amount of energy people have now as a result of staying fit is incredible. You should really see a ComedySportz show to witness for yourself how feeling good translated to having extreme amounts of pumped-osity onstage! Some of our Challengers have lost as much as 20 pounds already, with 5 weeks still to go. Wow. Just, Wow.

Vlog Post #1 (Mambo #5)

This post doesn't actually have anything to do with Lou Bega, as the title might have you believe. HOWEVER. Since teams have been decided, captains were elected and names were given. Josh reigns over Team Slim Gym, whilst BIG steve takes control of Team Sweat Band (AKA the best team ever.) And with that: Let the rivalry begin!!!

First BIG weigh-in!

Hey Fat Cats! Yesterday was the first official weigh-in of the SUMMER CHALLENGE. Brandon and Brad from AmFamFit assisted in weighing and checkin' the BMI of all the participants. The numbers were then locked away in a secret vault behind a revolving bookshelf, never to be looked at again as per my personal requests (man, Katie, you've TOTALLY let yourself go!)

BUT NOW THE FUN BEGINS! and the perks just keep coming, friends. Pat Walker, one of CSz's favorite people in the whole wide world is offering a hypnosis session for all of the challengers targeted at weight-loss! And oh, we're SO going rock climbing thanks to Peak Experience.

Did I mention that the loyal fan response was so awesome that we couldn't take just 4? We've accepted 8 fanz to join us on this magical journey, so congrats to them for being so persuasive that we just couldn't say no.

Teams are to be announced this week, so stay tuned for player profiles and game planzzzzzz!

The summer of sweat begins

It's no secret that fat people make some of the best comedians- Chris Farley, John Belushi, Curly from The Three Stooges....those two British chicks who had a cooking show er something....God bless 'em. But over at Comedysportz Richmond, something revolutionary is in the works. What about a troupe of FIT comedians? What would that do; would it blow your mind? Would it intimidate you into laughter from the mere sight of their rippling biceps? Their, their, muscley, undulating calves? Their veiny, protein driven fits of pure adrenaline?
Well, okay, maybe that's going a little far. But a while ago, Dave Gau of Csz Richmond got a great idea- why not host a summer challenge; an opportunity for two teams of improvisers along with a handful of their loyalest fanz to get in shape, eat right, and exercise regularly in efforts to become more fit, energized, and healthy individuals!
It's all about positive motivation- leading a healthy lifestyle and hopefully encouraging others who've been putting it off to realize it's not so hard. But oh, don't get it twisted, this IS a competition!!
That's right, the next two-and-a-half months are going to be filled with sweat, Gatorade and tears as the teams compete to lose the most and gain fabulous prizes (including cash!!)

American Family Fitness has been kind enough to sponsor the whole sha-bang with free summer memberships to both teams, our good friends at Ukrop's are sponsoring us with some awesome nutritional counseling, and the nice folks at Rich's Stitches are throwin' in some t-shirts for all participants!

And you've got a front row seat to all the action! This is the place to come for all the updates, interviews, drama, and even mini-episodes featuring tension-so-thick-you-could-cut-it-with-a-knife weigh-ins and challenges! So hold on tight, friends. It's gonna be a fit summer.

Teams are still being decided, and if you're a loyal fan it's not too late to get in on the action! The 4 fanz competing will be announced at Comedysportz Improv Theatre during the premiere of the new musical-improv show iProv on June 8th at 10:00. So e-mail your submissions before noon that day for a chance in the runnings, and come to the show to see if you're one of the lucky 4! For more information, check out the Summer Challenge page on the Comedysportz Richmond Website. Good luck, and may the best team lose.
